The 7-Step Certification Process

#1 Confirm Your Eligibility

Before applying for candidacy, please review carefully.

Certification is currently open to the following professionals:

  • Licensed Social Workers
  • Licensed Psychologists
  • Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Licensed Psychiatric Nurses
  • Licensed Psychiatrists
  • Licensed Criminal Justice Professionals
  • Licensed Addiction Professionals
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
  • Credentialed Professional Art Therapists
  • Clergy (Must have ethical oversight)
  • Pastoral Counselors (Must have ethical oversight)
  • Physicians
  • Professional Coaches (Life or Executive) certified through one of the following professional organizations:
    • International Coaching Federation (ICF) – ACC, PCC, and MCC certified who are active members. NOTE: attendance in an ICF course does not qualify you for certification.
    • Association for Coaching (Full Members only)
    • Board Certified Coach (BCC) though the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE)

Within these professions you must be:

  • Governed by a professional body with a disciplinary board and code of ethics.
  • In good standing with your professional organization.
  • Carry professional liability insurance, indemnity insurance, or errors & omissions (E&O) insurance.
  • Facilitating psycho-educational work must fall under the scope of what you are trained/licensed/certified to do by your profession’s governing body.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Daring Way™ is a curriculum that should be used in conjunction with existing skills and integrated into Candidates’ and Facilitators’ existing practices. Certified Daring Way™ Facilitators and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator – Candidates are only permitted to practice within their existing scope of practice as dictated by their licensure, training, or certification. Certification does not provide you with the skills to start a new line of work. For example:

  • If a person is not trained in group processing work, then s/he should not be facilitating these types of groups.
  • If a person is not trained in trauma, deep processing, or family of origin work, then s/he should not be facilitating groups or working with clients where these skills are necessary. If these issues emerge, clients should be referred to someone who could better meet the clients’ needs.
  • If a person is not trained and experienced in leadership/organizational development work prior to attending The Daring Way training sessions, such person should not be facilitating this type of work in these settings.

*Please review our Candidate and Facilitator Standards Policy.

Note:  Students or trainees in these fields cannot begin the process of certification until all eligibility requirements are met.

#2 Apply for Candidacy

Once you have confirmed your eligibility , you will need to complete an application. The application process consists of:

  • Providing personal and professional information.
  • Uploading an electronic copy of your valid professional license/certificate and professional liability/indemnity/E&O insurance.  NOTE: if official documents are not available in English, please provide a copy of the original and an English translation.
  • Selecting a training track based on your professional experience:
    • C/LC = Clinical / Life Coaching
    • LOD = Leadership and Organizational Development
  • Paying the application fee of $75.00 USD.

The Clinical/Life Coaching (C/LC) track is for helping professionals who work with individuals, couples, and groups around mental and behavioral health issues, counseling, addiction, life transitions, wellness, and/or spirituality.

The Leadership and Organizational Development (LOD) track is for professionals with experience in organizational/culture change, leadership development, and executive coaching. These seats are considerably more limited and open only to those who are already practicing in this area.

The training material covered is IDENTICAL for the two tracks. However, implementation and facilitation of the curriculum will depend on your training, licensure, and/or certification.

You will be notified by email if your application has been accepted and will then register for an open training.

Once you have successfully registered for a training, you will need to complete the following:

Foundational Reading Proficiency Assessments (FRPAs)

For this training, you will need to read all four of Brené’s books (Rising Strong, Daring GreatlyThe Gifts of Imperfection, and I Thought It Was Just Me). We consider mastery of these books foundational to doing the work. Therefore, we require that each candidate successfully complete the four Foundational Reading Proficiency Assessments (FRPAs).

The assessments are open book and can be taken as many times as necessary to achieve proficiency, but candidates must pass all assessments on the books in order to attend a training.

#5 Successfully Complete a Certification Training

The Daring Way™ Curriculum is an experiential, psychoeducational methodology and we utilize these approaches in both our in-person and online trainings.

Once you have gained a foundation of The Daring Way research through The Daring Way In Person portion of the Certification Training, you will complete the remaining Daring Way™ Curriculum sessions through an online classroom in Daring University. This classroom will be made up of support from your in-person facilitator and the members from your small group in-person training. When you have completed The Daring Way™ curriculum, you will then move through the Rising Strong™ curriculum in the same classroom using the same format.

Completion of your Daring University learning means that each assignment and required discussion post has been completed. Once you have successfully finished your lessons in Daring University and have received approval from your facilitator and The Daring Way™ team, you will apply to become a Candidate and move into Case Consultation.
